You will select two of the poems by Mary Makofske and write a five-paragraph essay in which you examine what the two poems say about the human experience.
“The Gardener near Verulamium”
“In the Book of Neolithic Woods”
“The Iceman”
Remember, the thesis, where you identify the central theme, will be the last sentence in the introduction;
The explication should follow the order of the poem;
Use slashes for line breaks and cite line numbers in the parenthetical citation;
NOTE: When I say, “what they say about the human experience,” what I mean is – what does it mean to be human? What is our place in this world? etc.
