The Hollywood Mental Courthouse experience is an opportunity to understand what one
of your patients may go through. Specifically, the Mental Health Court handles legal cases
that seek to:
• Detain a person under the provisions of the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act
• Examine or detain a person as mentally retarded
• Examine or detain a person for narcotic addictions
• Determine the present sanity of a criminal defendant
• Determine the competence of a criminal defendant to stand trial
