Rationale for the module and its links with other modules As the world’s economies develop and prosper, the integration of economies will see a continuation and intensification of changes in company management, as creativity and innovation skills become more dominant forces in the struggle to maintain market sh are. In addition, the model of social entrepreneurship as the embedded sustainability pers pective is used to question current and future roles of entrepreneurs. This module provides st udents with another crucial component in their understanding of global business, leading on from the level 5 module Managing New Ventures. There are thematic links with the stra tegy, management, and HR modules. 3. Aims of the module This module examines the foundations, theory and scop e of entrepreneurship, and identifies significant entrepreneurial trends in the global trading environment whilst critically reviewing the characteristics of the entrepreneur, so students will come away with a cl ear perspective on this crucial aspect of business. Students will also explore the nature of rapidly growin g companies, the role of the entrepreneur in such environments and be able to explain rapid-growth st rategies for entrepreneuria l companies. The effects of the dynamic trading environmen t of the 21st century on the entrepreneur of the 20th century are considered, as well as the management of change in th e entrepreneurial company. Social responsibility is an important component of this mo dule, and students will evaluate th e impact of models of social entrepreneurship on fulfilling societ al and ethical concerns in the modern era. Overall, upon successful completion, students will be able to critically analys e and comment with regards to the characteristics of the entrepreneur, the impact of social entrepreneur ship, finally linking up with management of family- run businesses often seen as living examples of entrepreneurialism in ac tion.
